Biographical Information
Joyce Cook, a single mother living in Rodeo, California, is employed as an advocate for incarcerated youth with the Ella Baker Center's Books Not Bars campaign. Joyce and her colleagues recently achieved a major victory when California closed two youth prisons they'd been lobbying to shut down. With three of her daughters out on their own, Joyce's household includes her 24-year-old son Edjuan who was recently released after 10 months in San Quentin, her 16-year-old daughter, and the son and daughter of her sister who passed away.
